Chapter 12 – Deal

I sat on the edge of the bed and took a deep breath as everything started to dawn on me. Damn, I'm turning thirty-two in four days and to realize how far I'd come and where my life is at this point, I couldn't help but be flat out overjoyed. Everything in my life was perfect. Better than I'd ever dreamed it could be, and it was all because of the woman who was downstairs, the beautiful, kind, thoughtful, gracious, fiery, sexy ass woman downstairs.

Speaking of which, I hadn't seen her since she ran her fingers along the side of my face, kissed me on the lips, threw on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt and made a quick getaway by jogging out of our room. Her explanation for her swift escape? She needed to start working on my birthday cake for tonight's family dinner at my mom’s place.

I wiped my hand over my face and stood to my feet. Looking at my watch I realized that was a good three hours ago, and in my opinion that was entirely too long of a timespan to have not seen her face, especially on a weekend when we’re both at home but unfortunately, before I could rectify that by getting out of the bed and making my way downstairs to my beloved my phone started to ring.

Grabbing it off of the nightstand and happily answering my caller, “Hey ma.”

“Hi, my son! How are you and my daughter Rae doing on the start of your glorious birthday week.”

“We have no complaints” I chuckled

“I'm sure you don't,” my mother commented lowly with a small chuckle of her own. “I can't wait until you guys come over tonight because I finally get to introduce her to the whole family,” she said excitedly.

“Ell is excited to ma, nervous but excited” I explained, unable to stop the smile that spread along my face and made its way into my voice.

“Speaking of Rae, where is she I called her an hour ago, but she didn't pick up.”

Looking over to Ell's side of the bed I can instantly see why my mother's call went unanswered “She’s downstairs baking the cake for tonight, and her phone is upstairs. She must have it on silent because I didn't hear it ring, or else I would have put you out of your misery.” I laughed

“Ugh, why is she downstairs baking?! I told her she didn't have to bring anything,” my mother whined with a sigh.

“You know how Ell is ma, she wasn't about to let you do all of the work, especially not for my birthday dinner” I explained with a smile

“Bless her heart,” she said before quickly switching gears, and squealing in my ear, “Everyone can't wait to meet her especially your Nona, and Tinamatua oooooo they are going to love her!” she excitedly cooed.
